Maternal and child nutrition plays a critical role in growth, development, immunity, and long-term health outcomes. Proper nutrition during pregnancy and childhood reduces the risk of maternal complications, low birth weight, stunting, nutrient deficiencies, infections, and chronic diseases later in life. This course provides foundational knowledge regarding nutritional needs during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, and childhood.
Learners will explore evidence-based recommendations for maternal and child nutrition from organizations such as the World Health Organization, United Nations Children’s Fund, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and current nutrition guidelines. The course also introduces breastfeeding, complementary feeding, growth assessment, immunization support, micronutrient supplementation, and community-based maternal and child nutrition strategies.
